Morning Star by Pierce Brown Review

9.5/10

Warning! Spoilers ahead!

This book completely destroyed me, no joke. I can’t even begin to put into words how this world has sucked me in over the past few weeks, despite it being quite a heavy-loaded series. This trilogy really did end with a bang, and I honestly feel like everything was rounded off satisfyingly and at the same time still left some things unfinished the next books. I also appreciated how the ending was not some “perfect” ending. The Color system is so fucking messed up and deeply rooted that it wouldn’t have been realistic at all for it to all suddenly be brought to a happily ever after in just three books. There are still so many political and social issues that need to be detangled in this universe and I honestly feel like there is still so much room to delve into that in the second half of this series.

Oh my poor little Sevro, I’m so beyond glad that you were spared throughout this. At the end of the book, when Cassius stabbed them in the back, I honestly thought I was going to have to throw this book across the room, that’s how shocked I was!  I was in such disbelief But luckily, Sevro the little precious nugget was protected and will hopefully remain safe and sound throughout the entire series and not a single hair on his head will be harmed.

The most touching and emotional part of this entire series was definitely the relationship between Darrow and Cassius. Those two have literally been to hell and back together and with one another. The way the two of them were able to find their way back to each other as brothers and friends actually did bring a lot of tears to my eyes. There is something incredibly beautiful and poetic in a friendship that is able to overcome so much hatred, violence and evil deeds. I really hope that Cassius will have a prominent role in the upcoming books too.
