Lux #2: Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout

My rating: 6.5/10

Warning: spoilers ahead

Overall, I enjoyed Onyx a tiny bit more than Obsidian. There was definitely a lot more action, backstabbing and plot twists and the overall tone of the story had a lot more high stakes.

Daemon was probably the character that had the most improvement in comparison to the first book. He had previously been such a huge jerk, so it was nice to see him try to make amends to Katy and acknowledging his terrible behavior. It was however also nice to not see Katy immediately fall into his arms without a second thought. She very often stressed the desire to want to be seen as his equal and also capable of saving herself, which I greatly admired.

Blake was definitely quite an interesting new character. Unfortunately, I kind of already saw his betrayal coming from a mile away (i.e. when a YA protagonist says “stop it, you’re hurting me”, this literally just screams antagonist) but I did find his motives interesting and hope we might see him again in future books.

Katy is definitely not a terrible protagonist, but she did kind of annoy me a bit in this book. Her whining about Daemon and Ash, and constantly telling him that he couldn’t possibly like her because it’s because of their connection got kind of old quickly.

I don’t really remember much from any of these books, so I’m excited to see w
hat will happen in Opal.
