I really enjoyed this conclusion to the Percy Jackson
series! The story, the fighting and the ending really tied together all five
books and gave me enough closure for all of the main characters, but also
opened up a plot for further books in the form of a new Prophecy (which I'm
assuming is referring to the books in the Heroes of Olympus series).
Rachel's story was probably the thing that interested me
most, even though I know that she is not the most popular character in the
fandom. I was intrigued by her ability to see through the Mist, not be affected
by any sleeping spells and see things from both the past and the future. Although
I did figure out her destiny as Oracle relatively soon, it was still cool to
see her story unfold. I really wish Rick would have given Rachel some more
book-time.
Something that still bothered me in this book, just as it
has done in the previous books is Annabeth and her jealousy towards Rachel.
Rachel was such an interesting character, but I feel like so much of her role was
reduced to simply being "that girl" that stands between Percy and
Annabeth. And on another note…I kind of don’t ship Percy and Annabeth together?
I know, I know. That sounds terrible. But I honestly just don’t really feel
like there was that much chemistry between the two of them? Sure, there were
some cute moments, but as a whole I didn’t particularly care for either Percy
or Annabeth staying single. I certainly wasn’t reading this series for any
romance and I love the series completely independently of anyone being in love.
Otherwise, this series definitely came to an epic conclusion
that was very satisfying. And I honestly just loved Nico di Angelo as a
character. Honestly, I strongly hope he’ll make an appearance in the Heroes
of Olympus series! I also really, really, really loved Hestia. She is by
far my favorite Greek god! I definitely also hope we see more of her in the
other books.
