Numbers #2: the Chaos by Rachel Ward

Mild spoilers ahead!

My rating: 6/10

This second installment was so much better than the first one, yay! Numbers: the Chaos follows Adam, the son of main protagonist of the first book, as well as a new character Sarah and how their worlds collide.

Basically, a lot of shit ensues, as Sarah fights for the life of her daughter and is on the run from her home. This book definitely also takes a much darker turn – which is quite surprising since I already though the first book was quite dark. Sarah’s familial situation, as well as the circumstances of her pregnancy were both incredibly creepy and dark.

The ending of the book was quite shocking as well, and really shakes the foundations of the laws of the numbers that Adam sees. I’m not entirely sure exactly what went down at the end, but it seems like perhaps people are able to “switch” numbers, perhaps willingly or perhaps it’s just a way for the universe to balance out the whole “life for a death” principle.
